Format and metadata guidance
- WebP is usually the best web default. JPEG works widely and is good for photographs. PNG preserves transparency but may not reduce size much.
- JPEG output uses a white background when the source has transparency. Browser canvas export strips most metadata, including camera location data, but browser behavior can vary.
- A target is an approximation: the tool reduces lossy quality in steps but never silently changes the selected pixel limit to meet it.
